Success at ‘Connected on Inclusion’ Awards

Spectrum’s Head of Marketing, Nasar Haq, was awarded ‘Role Model of the Year’ at West Yorkshire and Harrogate Race Equality Network’s ‘Connected on Inclusion’ Awards 2021, on Friday.

The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of those who have made a difference to race equality across the region.

Nasar was nominated for ‘Role Model of the Year’ for his tireless support and contributions to numerous outputs from the network, from supporting the anti-racism movement and vaccination programme to website design and production, and design of the fellowship programme. Nasar has also been instrumental in the network winning a recent HSJ award.

Nasar said, “This was totally unexpected, but a real boost to get recognised by the Race Equality Network. The work we have been doing has really started to gather steam and I do hope it makes a difference, not just now but for the future too. I want to thank everyone who has supported me on this journey.”

The win recognises Nasar’s inspirational work across the Race Equality Network and his commitment to equality and inclusion. He was also instrumental in the set-up of Spectrum’s first ever BAME Network.

The BAME Network aims to bring together Spectrum staff that are from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background and give them a ‘voice’ and safe space within the organisation, to positively tackle any inequalities, create opportunities, and provide support and training to improve working practices for all. The group is also open to BAME “allies” – staff who are not from a BAME background, but who wish to champion a reduction in staff inequalities and provide a supportive environment for their colleagues.
