Wakefield Integrated Sexual Health (WISH) gained feedback on how patients would prefer to receive their sexual health service delivery, post Covid-19. We received 187 responses from registered WISH patients.

Q1. How would you prefer to make an appointment?

87% of patients said they would like to make an appointment via telephone.

We are making improvements to our telephone service by implementing Microsoft TEAMS Telephony. This will enable more calls to be answered and therefore will improve patient experience when booking an appointment.

78% of patients said they would like to make an appointment via online booking.

We are working hard with our Digital Team to implement an online booking platform.

58% of patients said they would like to text ‘Call me’.

We provide a text ‘Call me’ service and this service is available during clinic opening hours.

33% of patients said they would like to make an appointment in person at reception.

Our reception desk is staffed during clinic opening times but due to Covid-19, patient access has been restricted. There is an intercom where patients can speak to reception and this is operated during clinic opening times.  Due to Covid-19, normal clinical service delivery will resume once deemed safe to do so.

39% of patients said they would like to make an appointment via email.

Patients can email us anytime and all emails will be responded to during clinic opening times.

Q2. How would you like an appointment with the Dr or Nurse?

91% of patients said they would like a pre-booked face-to-face consultation in clinic.

We offer daily pre-booked face-to-face appointments to patients who need to be seen by a Dr or a Nurse. We also have daily same day emergency slots for urgent matters relating to contraception and sexual health.

85% of patients said they would like a pre-booked call back on the same day.

We listened to patients and we now offer pre-booked call backs on the same day during the afternoon and evenings.

76% of patients said they would like a call back anytime on the same day.

We offer a call back service each day during clinic opening times.

65% of patients said they would like face to face walk-in clinic.

Due to Covid-19, we aim to resume walk-in clinics for young people when it is safe to do so. We do offer young people a bookable face to face appointment or a same day telephone/video consultation appointment. 

54% of patients said they would like to receive a call back on a different day.

We offer call backs on different days and can book an appointment on afternoons or evenings.

49% of patients said they would like a video consultation on the same day.

49% of patients said they prefer a video consultation on the same day.

We offer patients a telephone call or video call for all pre-booked and same day telephone appointments.

Q3. If you thought you had an STI symptom (symptoms from a positive sexual partner), how would you like to be tested?

80% of patients said they would like a face-to-face consultation in clinic with a Dr or Nurse.

We provide daily face-to-face appointments in clinic every day after you’ve had an initial clinical consultation with a Dr and Nurse.

66% of patients said they would like to use our ‘test no talk’ daily drop-in testing service (no Dr or Nurse).

The ‘test no talk’ STI testing service is popular and runs all day during clinic opening times.

65% of patients said they would like the postal pack service (chlamydia and gonorrhoea only).

Patients who request a postal pack via the internet are posted out on a daily basis – this service is efficient and really popular.

60% of patients said they would like online screening which includes blood tests for HIV/syphilis/hepatitis.

We began offering online testing from 2020 and this is popular with patients who lead a busy lifestyle and/or want to remain anonymous.

55% of patients said they would like the drop-in-and-drop off testing service (chlamydia and gonorrhoea).

We have a drop box in the foyer and in all patient toilets, for patients to discreetly test and drop their samples into the drop boxes.

Q4. If you had no symptoms but just wanted to make sure you didn’t have any STIs, how would you like to be tested?

73% of patients said they would like a face-to-face consultation in clinic with a Dr or a Nurse.

If patients are concerned that they have an STI, we would make an appointment for them to see a Dr or Nurse depending on their symptoms.

71% of patients said they would like a postal pack for (chlamydia and gonorrhoea).

Postal packs are posted to patients every day by our team – this is a popular way of testing for some patients.

65% of patients said they would like to use our drop-in service ’Test no talk’ (no Dr or Nurse).

Our drop-in service is popular with many patients, so no need to wait. The ‘Test no talk’ service runs all day during clinic opening times.

60% of patients said they would like online screening services, including blood tests for HIV/syphilis/hepatitis.

Preventx online testing is popular with patients who prefer to test from home. The Preventx testing service is a 24/7 service.

58% of patients said they would like the drop-in-and-drop-off testing service, not face-to-face (chlamydia and gonorrhoea) testing service.

Patients can use this service any time during our clinic opening times.

Q5. How would you prefer to receive your medication?

57% of patients said they would like their medication posting via our postal service.

Following a telephone consultation and if appropriate, our team of nurses ensure your medication is prescribed, dispensed, and packaged ready for posting to your preferred address.

43% of patients said they would like to pick up their medication from the clinic.

Following a telephone consultation and if appropriate, our team of nurses ensure your medication is prescribed, dispensed, and packaged ready to be collected from the clinic. Our collection service is available during clinic opening hours.
