Root out Racism

Partners across Wakefield are backing a new movement that will challenge racism and address health inequalities in the district.

“Root Out Racism” is being launched by the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership and West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit, which works to improve people’s health and wellbeing in Wakefield, Bradford, Calderdale, Harrogate, Kirklees, and Leeds.

Around 500 organisations and community allies have signed up in support, including local partners Spectrum Community Health CIC, Wakefield Council, NHS (Wakefield CCG, South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Mid-Yorkshire NHS Hospitals Trust) and West Yorkshire Police.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the inequalities faced by many of our communities and this Movement is key to starting to address the hidden and open racism that impacts on our fellow citizens. I encourage everyone to be a part of this and help Root Out Racism.”
