Please tell us which Apprenticeship (or Programme) you are doing / or have recently completed.
I’m doing a Level 2 Horticulture apprenticeship, a two year course which I started in September.

Why did you choose that Apprenticeship?
I wanted to do the apprenticeship because I enjoyed volunteering with Spectrum People at Appletree Garden for over a year, with the Flex programme run by Askham Bryan College. I thought that starting an apprenticeship was the right thing for me instead of jumping straight into a full-time job, so I could build my confidence and self-belief as well as learn new skills.

Thinking about your time on the course, what are you most proud of?
I’m proud of working with a friendly team, working with volunteers from all walks of life and an amazing employer who gives something back to the local community.

Has your Apprenticeship been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic (or other work pressures)?
No struggles to speak of, as of yet.

How do you think this Apprenticeship / programme has helped to develop your skills?
Not only have I gained more knowledge related to gardening, it has also helped me develop my communication skills and self-confidence when being around groups of people, which in the past has been a big problem for me.

Would you encourage others to do an apprenticeship?
I would highly recommend an apprenticeship for anyone who wishes to learn new skills or (like myself) to prove to yourself that you can do it and you can work to achieve something, whilst giving back to other people.
